Caroline W. Casey has a degree in semiotics from Brown University and has studied esoteric traditions and mythologies from around the world. She lectures and gives workshops internationally and is the author of the best-selling audio series from Sounds True, Inner and Outer Space. Her articles and interviews have appeared in the Washington Post, London Sunday Times, San Francisco Examiner, and The Village Voice. There are no words. I listened to this book on tape over 15 years ago. It changed my world view. This is a unique and original way to use astrology, for self-development and healing; and for co-creation with universal energies. I will be forever grateful to Caroline Casey for sharing her perceptions and knowledge. Read it.

Outstanding book on the real meanings of astrology with challenging writing style

This is an outstanding reference book on the meaning of astrology and of each constellation and planet. While I've read parts of it straight through just out of interest, it's even more helpful and interesting when I have a question about a particular constellation or planet and really want to get more understanding.

The author has a more powerful purpose for astrology than allowing one to find out what's going to happen. The author feels that the importance of astrology is that it can one attune one to the forces guiding our lives and so work more in alignment with them, capitalize on them even. Thus the title, "Making the Gods Work for You." This is a much more powerful look at astrology than the usual.

The writing style is also unusual. It's in the direction of stream of consciousness as if the author is channeling the cosmic consciousness, a deep source of eternal knowledge -- which she may well be doing. Sometimes the writing is poetic and/or funny. While the book is well-organized into each constellation and planet, due to the writing style, it can be slow-going. So, I usually read a few pages at a time as I need the information. I've needed to re-read parts over and over so that I can take in section as a whole, kind of like being able to swallow a bite of food rather than just read a logical description of what it tastes like.

This is an outstanding reference book for attaining deep understanding of each planet and constellation as well as astrology itself.

I am not an astrology fan, but I am a fan of Caroline Casey's trickster mystery school. This book is wonderful! Loaded with great insight and wit, her knowledge of astrology, mythology, language and fairy tales bring the stars and planets to life. I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in a good read, in exploring fun and fascinating aspects of life and influence,as well as, well, astrology.

Henri Cartier-Bresson's famous scrapbook from the 1940s, published in its entirety for the first time.

Henri Cartier-Bresson was taken prisoner by the Germans in 1940. After two unsuccessful attempts, he managed to escape in 1943. During this period, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, assuming that the photographer had died in the war, started preparing what they thought would be a posthumous exhibition of his work. When he reappeared, Cartier-Bresson was delighted to learn of the exhibition and decided to review his entire oeuvre and curate it himself.

In 1946 Cartier-Bresson traveled to New York with about 300 prints in his suitcase, bought a scrapbook, glued in the photos, and brought that album to MoMA's curators. His exhibition there, a celebration of his survival, opened on February 4, 1947.

In the 1990s, Cartier-Bresson once again turned his attention to this scrapbook. Following his death in 2004, the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, the present owner of the prints, finished the job of restoring them, making it possible to bring a large body of his extraordinary work to the public, images that have now become a memorial collection after all.

Coinciding with a recent exhibition jointly curated by the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson and the International Center of Photography, this splendid selection of more than 300 images presents the iconic French photographer's famous 1930s–1940s scrapbook. Published in its entirety for the first time, it contains many of the pictures that cemented Cartier-Bresson's reputation as one of the 20th century's defining image makers. During World War II, the Museum of Modern Art arranged what its curators thought would be a posthumous exhibition of his work, following his capture by the Germans in 1940. Four years later, the museum discovered that Cartier-Bresson had escaped and survived in hiding. He gladly collaborated with MoMA and brought 300 prints in a scrapbook to New York. Now handsomely reprinted, the collection spans from 1932 to 1946, and includes vivid portraits of Matisse, Picasso, Bonnard and Giacometti, as well as street photography, assigned photo essays and reportage of France's tumultuous war years. Image after striking image reveals Cartier-Bresson's consistency in capturing poignant moments in perfectly composed frames. Process of Selection

I have liked HCB for about six years. I first saw his picture where a man, caught in mid-air,jumps across a puddle. I still think that this is one of the best photographs ever made.
In the scrapbook, the reader gets to see the many different shots, that made up the bundle from which one image got selected to be published.
While quite a few of the images not selected have their own charm, the finally published image does usually stand. A great look behind the scene of HCB photos, but also a great visual retrospective of his life.
Excellent book with superbly printed photographs.

At first view it was very strange to see such tiny (9X12 cm) photos at large pages.Then you become to realize the author's plan to merge you into the world of HCB and you live his life reading this book as if with your pocket full of those small scrap pictures. Very recommended

Imagine an artist's everyday life in Nazi-occupied Paris, where he was surrounded by violence and the constant threat of violence, where his creative genius (expressed through the lens of a 1932 Leica camera) would produce scrapbook pictures that were literally smuggled from his pocket into our 21st century hands.

You don't need to be deeply enamored of Henri Cartier-Bresson to be awakened by the stunning impact of this collection.

Regrettably, those who find the book a disappointment (because of photos that are much smaller than a full page) are missing the point.

My first like on all the stories are the historic references. I also enjoyed traveling to areas that I myself have visited, fun to reminisce!

Worth the wait!

Dante's book was defintely worth the wait for me I really enjoyed his and Amara's story and how the chemistry was there but it was'nt rushed the author really took her time with them and let there story develope before letting them fall in love. I also loved the fact that she brought all the characters from the CCD series back! I really loved reading and catching up with them in Dante's book and then she introduced us to two new charaters in the form of Caleb and Griffin I can't wait for there stories to come out. Also Dante's brother's were introduced as well they were jerks in the book but after Amara set them straight they eventually pulled there heads out of there butts and were willing to heal the rift between them and dante I would have loved for it to be more but sadly the book ened with them standing in dante's door asking for another chance so hopefully when there series starts the author will begin there. Other wise it was a great read for me and so worth the wait!! Great Job Ms. Rochelle!

It has been way to long for Marie to finally have a IR book that I can read. I am looking for the next installment. I loved Amara's and Dante lovestory. The ending was not what I expected. Hope you will keep us going like you did with the wonderful men of CCD...

It's a good book, but something is missing

Honestly, it's not that romantic in the beginning (the main characters meet once and don't meet again until 42% into the book) which is disappointing because Ms Rochelle is extremely good at the romance part of her books. Plus, everything is summed up way to quickly at the end. I felt the relationship wasn't able to be fully developed since it took so long for them to meet. Also the unnecessary chapters about his friends from the other books really detracted from the main relationship (it was nice to catch up, but honestly it was too much catch up). Also, we spent waaaay more time on his lingering feelings for Keira than really learning anything about the main couple. Despite all this, it's a pretty good book and Ms. Rochelle explores an interesting topic, but it just didn't possess her normal level of romance and alpha maleness. It leaves you wishing there was more depth to the characters.

Really enjoyed this series!

I reviewed each book after I read it and decided to post all three combined in this review. There are really no spoilers, but if you like to go in blind you may not want to read the reviews for books 2 and 3 until after you've finished the first.

I will say that I really enjoyed this series and looking forward to reading the 4th book next. I can see what all the fuss is about when people talk about Ethan Blackstone!

Here are my individual reviews:

Naked

So a few weeks ago I came across a picture of a list of the best book boyfriends and the more hearts beside their name the better they were, well Ethan Blackstone’s name was on this list and there were like a million stars next to his name. I didn’t know who he was but I knew with an endorsement like that (especially when he had considerably more hearts than some of my all-time favs!) I just had to see what this Ethan Blackstone was all about! Well after finishing this first book in the series, I have to say, now I know what all the hearts were for!! Ethan was awesome! He wasn’t just your typical good looking, controlling, powerful billionaire he was actually very much like a real dude and I found it very easy to fall for him. He was definitely all of those things I just said but he had this other side to him where he was brutally honest (okay except for that one thing…), wore his heart on his sleeve and was playful. He definitely went after what he wanted and didn’t really take no for an answer he didn’t go about it in a jerky way and when he messed up or crossed a line he was quick to apologize (and he meant it). I mean how can you not fall in love with him with lines like this:

“What did you bring me from your shopping? I hope it’s a sweet,” he said, reaching for the Boots bag. “I like Jolly Ranchers. Cherry is my favorite-“

Adorable! And I loved this little twist, this normalcy, that the author gave his character. It was a refreshing change for a book in this genre. This book was quick and really served to set up the start of their relationship and hint at some of the secrets and darker things that are lurking from their pasts as well as some current dangers that I think will play big into the rest of the series, or at the very least the next book. This book did end with a cliffhanger but luckily the other books are out so there’s no waiting to see what happens next and the way things left off I am very excited to see what’s next.

I thought this book was well written and set the stage for the rest of the series. I loved Ethan and Brynne and despite the fast pace of their relationship I felt their connection and I loved them together. I loved their conversations and the easy way they had about them, the dialogue was very fun and realistic, it was super cute and also super-hot! Now that Ethan Blackstone is on my radar I’m looking forward to spending a little more time with him and his “American girl”!

I’m off to start the next book, but I’ll leave you with this part that made me laugh:

“If I told you any more, I’d have to kill you, ad that would just blow my promise all to $h!t.”
“What promise?” I asked innocently.
“That I’m not a serial killer.” He said as he popped a piece of steak into his beautiful mouth and started chewing.
“Thank the gods! The idea of eating a plate of beef with a serial killer would have totally killed this date for me.”

All In

If you thought Ethan was great after reading Naked, then just wait until you read All In! This book was a real treat because unlike book 1 it was told entirely from Ethan’s POV and I LOVED that! I thought he was the perfect mix of rich, powerful alpha and a normal dude after reading the first book and that thought was validated even more after spending a whole book inside his head. I loved seeing his jealousy and possessiveness and his alpha ways balanced with his goofier, normal side and I especially liked when those two sides collided. Like when Brynne got a text from someone who Ethan was convinced wanted to sleep with her and Ethan wanted to send a threatening text back signed ‘Ethan w/ a big knife’ Ha! So hilarious, especially when he found out who that person really was. There were so many moments like that where I was either grinning or laughing because of his inner musings, the author really captured his personality perfectly in this book.

This book picks up right where Naked left off, with Ethan reeling from Brynne’s reaction and trying to figure out how to make it right. The poor guy was a mess, I loved when he went to visit his dad though. Seeing Ethan with his family throughout this book was super sweet. His dad is pretty cool. As badly as I felt for Ethan, there were also comical moments as well as he tried to think up different schemes to win Brynne back. My favorite was him trying to use his lion fish for this purpose:

“She loved you, Simba. Maybe if I tell her that you are pining and off your feed she’ll come back.” So I was talking to fish now. How in the hell had I got to this lowly point?

How can you not love that? I don’t know whether it’s Brynne or Ethan who narrates the 3rd book, but I’m secretly hoping it’s Ethan (or at least a switch between the two!). In the first book we got a bit of what happened in Brynne’s past and not much at all about Ethan’s demons, but in this book both are fully uncovered and I loved how supportive they were of the other. They may be a little messed up individually, but together they just work. It’s not perfect, there is jealousy and misunderstanding but it’s not drawn out and they deal with things in a believable manner. The danger to Brynne heats up a bit and we get to see Ethan struggle to keep his head in the game while he’s stretched so thin with his work and with his feelings for Brynne starting to cloud his judgment. The events of this book are building up and I think the next book is going to be action packed, or at least I hope it will be!

I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to continuing on the series! This book didn’t really end with a cliffhanger like the first book did but there’s still so much story left, I’m excited to see what’s in store next for Brynne & Ethan’s relationship! Based on the cover of the 3rd book I think I have a pretty good idea of where things are heading and I can’t wait!

Eyes Wide Open

“Are you real?” he whispered, brushing up my face with the back of his fingers in a cherishing caress. “Because I’ll want you forever.”

What an exciting installment in Brynne and Ethan’s love story! This book picks up right where All In leaves off and is flat out from that point on. Much to my delight we continue to get Ethan’s POV in this book, in fact this book is narrated by both Brynne and Ethan. I really enjoyed getting into Ethan’s head in the last book so I was glad to see that we got more of that in this book. I really liked how it switched back and forth throughout, it really helped round out the story and with so much going on for them it was the perfect time to combine viewpoints.

This book really took their relationship to new heights and continued to test them at every turn. There were some misunderstandings and some angst but I loved how committed they were to each other and how they worked through their issues. They both grew a lot in this book and I really loved how they used their trials and tribulations as a means to strengthen their bond and commitment to one another. There were plenty of things that happened in this book that would have torn a couple apart, but Brynne and Ethan fought with everything they had to keep their relationship alive.

The danger and threats that had been building over the past two books really heat up in this book and I found myself holding my breath and I got further in the book because I was worried that things would be hitting he fan soon. I really liked having this added layer of suspense woven in to the overall story of their journey. Some things were a little predictable but there were a few things that caught me off guard and really ratcheted up the danger and kept me on the edge of my seat!

One thing I really loved in this book was seeing a more playful side of Ethan as they spent time with this sister and her family. Seeing him with his niece was the sweetest thing ever and I loved that we got to see this side of him. To me he’s always been the perfect balance of rich, powerful alpha and sweet loving normal guy and seeing this side of him was totally swoonworthy! With all of the serious stuff going on, I loved that the author was able to pepper in these lighter moments and give Ethan some humorous moments to balance it all out. It’s definitely easy to fall in love with him!

I really enjoyed this book, I think it was my favorite of the series so far and I am really looking forward to reading what I presume is the conclusion of Brynne and Ethan’s story in Rare and Precious Things!

If every girl had a man like Ethan! I decided to read this series after seeing many recommendations. I was not disappointed. Loved the honesty and seeing the relationship develop into something real that could be depended on.

Not really what I had hoped for

The reviews are what prompted me to purchase the whole set but after book one I was sorely disappointed. Just didn't feel the authenticity of a real connection between the characters.

About the Author
Preston Blair was a native Californian from Redlands. He attended Pomona College, then studied art at the Otis Art Institute and illustration under Pruett Carter at Chouinard Art Institute (now California Institute of the Arts). He exhibited widely as a member of the California Watercolor Society and the American Watercolor Society in New York.

Blair was one of the fine artists of animation. With the Disney Studio, he designed and animated the hippos in "The Dance of the Hours" and animated Mickey Mouse in the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" (both in Fantasia), parts of Pinocchio, and the segment in Bambi when the owl tell about love in the "tiwitterpatted" speech.

At MGM, Blair directed Barney Bear shorts, and is well known as the animator and designer of Red Hot Riding Hood in the Tex Avery epic shorts. Later, Blair moved to Connecticut and produced television commercials, educational films, and half-hour cartoon episodes (including the Flinstones) for West Coast producers. More recently, he was an inventor of interactive TV systems using animation methods to teach reading or to provide full-figure game action that simulates reality--for example, playing tennis with an animated opponent.

Blair died in April 1995 at the age of 85.

Simply the best

This book is simply the best animation how-to guide for the novice or talented amateur. Very well presented and beautifully illustrated. It's a classic book that has been around for many years and should be around for many more.

This is a great way to see how animation starts. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to choose Animation as a career. I am taking Web design and Animation.
