Having someone in the business who will help mentor and make good decisions is very useful

This book is very informative. I own and operate a small vending route and had been doing so for about a year and a half before reading Roberts book. I wish I would have read his book from day 1. Having been in the industry for a while I knew with out a doubt that Robert knew the in's and out's about the world of vending. This book describes to a tee how the vending business can be and needs to be treated. After reading this book I decided to use Roberts consulting services for vending. Having someone in the business who will help mentor and make good decisions is very useful. I call Robert anytime with questions regarding vending and it has proven to be a very valuable tool.

Excellent Book! Very informative im glad I purchased this book before I started my vending business. I had ideas that I thought were good ideas and good for my vending business, I learned through this book that some of my ideas were actually bad ideas and very common pitfalls in the vending Industry. Also in my short time in dealing with Robert Thomason & Pro-Vending Consultants have been just as useful

Maybe good for people without previous agile experience

I brought this book looking for practices and recommendations about how to apply UX practices in a Agile team.

I've experience in agile, and I'm informed about some of the Agile UX practices (like the well known working one sprint ahead and its pros/cons). So I was looking for a good resource, that summarizes practices and experiences, to be informed about what is the best way of organizing the work with my team.

But this book wasn't what I looking for. If you have experience with Agile and you are an UX practitioner there are a lot of questions that comes up:

- How should be interaction with the product owner and the team?
- What are the recommendations about deliverables?
- How to organize research into small iterations?
- How to fit user testing in the process?
- What happens if the visual design is done by contractors? What are the recommendations about it.

Answers to those questions are barely touched by the book, and it never goes beyond the introduction.
For example about deliverables, the author points to an article of Jeff Gothelf in Smashing Magazine and nothing more.

If I have to say something good about the book:
- There are only a few books about Agile UX. And this one can serve as an introduction to Agile if you are a UX practitioner.
- It contains lots of case studies.

Beyond that it becomes repetitive, with scarce information about practices. Maybe the problem is with the sub-title: "A practitioner's guide to making it work", it should be "An introduction to Agile teams for UX professionals".
I found Jeff Gothelf book: Lean UX, a better source of information to what I was looking for.

Great overview of Agile UX design, with several case studies for real world examples. Everyone is talking about "Agile" lately, but there aren't a lot of books out there for UX practitioners. - This book highlights what you need to know - I'll definitely be referring to it again.

Great for UXers getting into Agile

I found this book really helpful -- it was written from the perspective of a UX practitioner for other UX practitioners. Every aspect of Agile development is viewed through the lens of UX design and feedback -- including Agile principles, practices, deliverables, and work patterns. It's an easy read straight through or can be picked up as a reference. The author spells out what has worked well in the past, and rather than taking a hard-line approach of "this is the one way to do it right", comes at her recommendations from the perspective of "you know your team -- take what's worked well for others and adapt it to make it work for you". I'll be recommending this to my colleagues going forward, for sure.

Fantastic F/F/M story!

First read by this author and I seriously loved it! There just isn’t enough really good erotica out there featuring F/F/M combos and Donna Jay completely supplied it!

Jen and Brett are looking forward to a relaxing weekend getaway of camping. While handing out by the river they get a little touchy feely on each other until they are interrupted by Kylie who is looking for her dog that ran through the bushes towards the river. Jen and Brett have always fantasized about having another woman and when she shows up after they’ve just gotten their motors revved, they can’t help but look at her with some lust. The moment is quickly gone, however, when Kylie retrieves her dog and sets back to her little cottage in hopes of having not ruined the nice couples obvious plans.

Hearing some crazy barking, Jen and Brett go to investigate and find Kylie being harassed by a couple younger guys who are hitting on her and trying to get her to come with them. Brett saves the day and Jen and Brett offer Kylie a ride home so she doesn’t have to worry about running into them again.

Jen and Brett participate in some harmless flirting with Kylie until Kylie finally jumps across the line they’ve all been coming close to, but not quite crossing themselves. After all, Brett and Jen may have fantasized about such an experience but neither has been in the situation before and don’t know how to proceed. Kylie tells Jen and Brett that she has been a third before and enjoys it and asks them if they have as well. When she finds out they’ve not had this experience before, she does what she can to take some of the lead so they can relax and enjoy.

I really appreciated that Kylie had her boundaries of no penetration unless she’s in a committed relationship with the man. This makes all parties feel better as there are clear lines that won’t be crossed which will allow them to, hopefully, come out of the situation on the other side having been fully satiated but not jealous, stressed-out or worried. The actual threesome scene was super-hot and more realistic as to how a married couple and a total stranger would react in this kind of scene (at least in my opinion), and I really liked Kylie’s idea of how the three of them could have the experience together, at the same time, but without anyone’s boundaries actually being crossed.

I would consider this a HEA in my own opinion but others might feel differently. Let me just say I thought it more realistic and I really enjoyed it. I felt like their experience will be more treasured this way.

Highly recommended for fans of F/F/M combos in their erotica.

A Zipperless Dream

Although not an exact match, Riverside Surprise is in many ways the quintessential "zipless f*ck" that Erica Jong's book Fear of Flying described. Riverside has the quality of an erotic dream, a mystical first FF and FMF encounter for the happy wife/heroine of this novella. The storu is the creation, in words, of how many people might imagine how their first such sexual encounter would take place.

I'm going out on a limb and speculating that many people's - both men and women's - very first imaginary creation of a sexual encounter - 'wet dream' if you want to be crass (dreamt while they are still naïve and inexperienced) is with an imaginary partner with a bit more experience, who is willing to take the lead, but who is nevertheless thrilled to couple with you, the dreamer, the newbie. Certainly, my young man's dream was of such a woman to tutor and enthrall me.

What I like so much about Riverside Surprise is that it evokes that dream for the wife, who gets her zipless f*ck in the form of her very first FF sex, and her first ménage. By "like" I mean it evoked the whole dream-like experience for me, a guy, who will never have a first FF experience. The words were that lush.

Reading Philosophy will appeal to both those beginning their study of philosophy at a university and those who want to engage with the subject on their own. Unlike introductory books which tell the reader about the subject, this one requires the reader to do philosophy. Its direct approach makes the book valuable both for students and for other readers. It can be used as the set reading in seminars in introductory courses: each chapter can act as a focal point for extended discussion week by week. But it is also well adapted for self-sufficient use by individuals working without a teacher.

The volume provides eighteen examples of high-quality philosophical texts, covering nine philosophical topics: Doubt; Self; Tragedy; Equality; Dilemma; Identity; Freedom; Causality; Qualities. The texts include writings by Descartes, Boyle, Locke, Berkeley, Hume, Schopenhauer and J. S. Mill, as well as eight written by philosophers in the late twentieth century. Each chapter contains an introduction to the problem, introductions to the texts and their authors, and interactive commentaries on the texts.

About the Author
Samuel Guttenplan is a Reader in Philosophy at Birkbeck College, University of London. He is the author of The Languages of Logic (2nd edn, Blackwell, 1997), editor of A Companion to the Philosophy of Mind (Blackwell, 1994) and executive editor of the journal Mind & Language.

Jennifer Hornsby taught philosophy at Oxford from 1978 to 1994, when she moved to Birkbeck College, as Professor. Her chief areas of publication are the philosophy of mind, action and language. She has also written about the impact of feminism on philosophy.

Christopher Janaway was educated at Oxford and has taught for the past twenty years at Birkbeck College, where he is currently Professor of Philosophy. His chief areas of publication are aesthetics, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche.

A fine introduction to philosophical argument

This well-considered collection of primary texts and analytical commentaries manages to introduce some of the fundamental themes of philosophical inquiry (identity, quality, freedom, causality) without shortchanging the real work of abstract thinking that leads to genuine philosophical insight. Unfortunately, many introductory works merely summarize the views of major thinkers. The strength of this collection is that the arguments that make those views important and worthwhile are foregrounded and treated in comprehensive detail. While the included texts (by Descartes, Berkeley, Hume, Schopenhauer, as well as Bernard Williams, Robert Nozick and P.F. Strawson, among several others) can be quite dry, only a reader whose interest in philosophy remains merely superficial could possibly fail to find worlds of fascination and grounds for further reflection in and among these works. The editorial commentaries following each primary text are admirably concise and clear. An excellent main text for introductory courses in philosophy.

A must for skills in reading

This book is a great start for people seeking not only some illumination on basic philosophic texts but more importantly, how to read those texts.

The book is made up primary source texts from historically relevant philosophers. At the end of each reading, there is an "interactive commentary' which points the reader back into key parts of the text, and prompts closer analysis through questions aimed at getting the reader to think. This method is highly instructive because, while anyone choosing this book clearly knows how to read passively, not everyone can trace arguments, pause for questions and examples the way a philosopher does.

The best use for this book is to get a grounding in active reading, this skill is useful for anyone who is required to read in daily or academic life. I didn't realize how passive a reader I was until I encountered this text. The other texts in this series build on these skills so it is wise start with this title. After reading this, a reader can expect to more confidently engage in any complex text which is the true benefit.

If one is looking for a primer on philosophy per se, I would probably recommend one of the books by Nigel Warburton; as those are more straight to the point and closer aligned as primers. This book would likely be too complex for someone seeking a simple primer since it uses primary texts which are by nature more complex than summaries.

Turgid and pedantic

This book is the type that sends people to sleep.

The information is presented in such a way that it feels excruciating to read it.

I have taken several philosophy courses and am reading Baudrillard's "Simulacra and Simulation" right now so am not intimidated by complex texts. I have been interested in philosophy since high school.

Although this book offers itself as a 'beginner book' it is not inviting and doesn't perform the essential task of a beginner book, to inspire further inquiry.Listed in the introduction of what this book has to offer :

"1. Each text presents a clear, well-argued answer to a central philosophical question."

Where is the prompt to act? The question and the answer are already worked out for anyone that cares to read through the less than exciting phrasing. If one has a good memory, the text could be memorized and one could claim to know something about philosophy.

Confronting "the gender amnesia that surrounds the American Revolution," historian Berkin (A Brilliant Solution: Inventing the American Constitution) offers a lively account of women's various roles in the long, bloody conflict. Early forms of resistance included boycotting British cloth--and thus dusting off retired spinning wheels--and tea as women used "their purchasing power as a political weapon." As the conflict became a war in city streets and the neighboring countryside, houses became war zones; ordinary women often served as spies, saboteurs and couriers. Camp followers (often soldiers' wives) provided logistical support (cooking, washing, sewing, nursing, finding supplies) and occasionally even fought; prostitutes kept up soldiers' sexual (and social) morale. Generals' wives, "admired while the ordinary camp followers were often scorned," accompanied their husbands in different style; they boosted morale with dinner parties and dancing. Berkin reaches beyond white "American" women to chart the experiences of Loyalist women ("targets of Revolutionary governments eager to confiscate the property of... traitors"), Native American women (for whom "an American victory would have... tragic consequences") and African-American women (whose "loyalties were to their own future, not to Congress or to king"). First-person accounts lend immediacy and freshness to a lucidly written, well-researched account that is neither a romantic version of "a quaint and harmless war" nor "an effort to stand traditional history on its head." Although conventional histories have traditionally been limited to chronicling the heroic exploits of a handful of women as opposed to masses of men, in truth the creation of a new nation required the active involvement of countless numbers of females. The author has subdivided these many stories into chapters recounting the experiences of women who protested against English policy, women who toiled on the homefront, women who followed the army, generals' wives, Loyalist women, Native American women, and African American women. Terrific history lesson on women in the American Revolution

My wife had to read this book for a history course. I picked it up and read it in a day. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I learned about women in the American Revolution - I never read this history as an undergrad. Definitely worth an afternoon of your time.

Good Book

I enjoy personal stories of the Revolutionary War. This was a good book, but not as detailed about the women's stories as I thought it might be. It was more detail about the state of American and gender roles with personal stories thrown in. What prompted me to look for more Revolutionary times books about women was Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised Our Nation by Cokie Roberts. Founding Mothers was a wonderful detail of how these women were raised and their roles in the revolution.
The book Revolutionary Mothers did cover more than the white upper-crust, it covered Native American roles, African American roles, and both sides of the war, patriot and loyalist. Overall, I am glad I read it.

Great overview of Environmental Health

When I took "Environmental and Occupational Health" (EOH) for my master's in public health, this book provided the background for learning this broad course in a matter of 3 months. If I did not have this book while taking the EOH class, I would not have gotten an A. If you want an A in EOH, you should use this book.
